Insecticidal Soap
Description
One of the safest insecticides to use in your garden is insecticidal soap. It is unlikely to cause harm to you, plants, and insects in the surrounding area and is a good all-purpose insecticide.
Insecticidal soaps work by suffocating insects, removing their protective waxy coating which results in dehydration in a couple of days. Unlike most insecticides, insecticidal soap must contact the pest insect during the application process. Insects that walk across a sprayed leaf will not be affected. Because of this, repeated applications may be required, so read the insecticide label for instructions on your specific plant.
Note: Some plants are sensitive to these soaps. While most plants grown in the gardens are not on this list, it is advisable to carefully read the insecticide label to ensure the plant will not be damaged.
Affected Insects
Most insects are susceptible to insecticidal soap especially soft-bodied insects. Visit the page of a specific insect for more information.
